Vacek Chair of Pharmacology at the University of Texas at Austin. Lead editor of the Endocrine Society’s February 2024 report Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals: Threats to Human Health, a synthesis of two decades of evidence on how environmental chemicals derange hormonal systems at levels well below the thresholds used in classical toxicology.

Her own research focuses on the developmental effects of endocrine disruption on the neuroendocrine axis, and on the trans-generational transmission of exposure effects in mammals.

Why she matters here

The 2024 Endocrine Society report makes an argument the present resource extends on the clinical side (see Right to Optimal Hormonal Levels): that hormonal reference ranges defined in the mid-twentieth century do not describe an unexposed population, and that the endpoints they were designed to detect are not the endpoints that matter for health across the life course.
