EAT-Lancet Commission

High-profile Lancet Commission established in 2017 and reporting first in 2019, chaired by Walter Willett and Johan Rockström, with the mandate to synthesize the evidence on diets compatible with both human health and planetary boundaries. Its planetary health diet reference is now one of the most-cited artefacts in the international dietary-recommendation space.

Why it matters here

EAT-Lancet operates one rung above where the physiological rights argument operates. Its object is a dietary pattern defined at population level and at planetary scale; its unit of analysis is servings, food groups and greenhouse-gas equivalents. The argument on the physiological adequacy of specific micronutrients within such a pattern, and on the individual-level variation that the pattern collapses, is out of its scope by design. That definitional choice is exactly what this resource is contesting on the individual side.
